The Planning Division of the Community Development Department deliver a wide variety of "long-range planning" and "current planning" services to residents, property owners, and developers.
The Division is active in updating the Comprehensive Plan and other long-range plans as directed by City Council and the Planning Commission. Updates are typically informed through public hearings, presentations, open houses, neighborhood association meetings and other civic gatherings. Staff also participates at local, regional and state levels regarding long-range land-use issues.
The Comprehensive Plan is the official long-range land use policy document for the City of Beaverton. It provides a framework for the decision making process and is a means of directing community efforts towards sound future growth, better understanding between public and private efforts, and a more beautiful and livable community. The Plan seeks to capture the essence of the community’s vision of its future, translating it into a form that will allow effective implementation.
The Division reviews physical development proposals, both private and public, to determine if the proposals comply with the land uses and development standards outlined in the Development Code. A few standards that may be reviewed include building setbacks, building height, and lot sizes.
The Development Code has been designed in accordance with the goals, policies, and statements of intent of the Beaverton Comprehensive Plan. It is the general purpose of this Code to provide one of the principal means for implementation of the Beaverton Comprehensive Plan.
