Management and SEIU represented employees receive 10 designated paid holidays per year. BPA employees not eligible for holidays receive 8 hours of pay per month in lieu of paid holidays.
The City provides a PTO program for management and SEIU represented employees. Under this program, employees can maintain their salary while unable to work due to illness or injury. (For the first 24 consecutive work hours of an illness or injury employees use PTO hours. If the event is a qualified FMLA leave [forms required], the 24 hours may be waived. After the first 24 consecutive hours, time off due to illness or injury is charged to a medical leave account.) The PTO program also provides the opportunity for employees to take approved vacation.
PTO accrual rates are based upon length of service. Employees may accrue up to a maximum of 1.75 times their annual accrual. Employees accrue 19 PTO days a year during their first five years of employment. Employees may take PTO leave after 30 days of employment.
Employees accrue 6 medical leave days a year regardless of length of service. There is no maximum for medical leave accrual.
BPA employees have a vacation program instead of the PTO program. Vacation accrual is based on hours worked and length of service. BPA employees are eligible for vacation after 6 months employment. Employees may accrue up to a maximum of twice their annual vacation accrual.
After six months from date of hire, employees are credited with 48 hours of vacation leave. Employees accrue 11 paid vacation days per year during the first five years of employment.
BPA employees have a sick leave program instead of the PTO and medical leave programs. All regular BPA employees earn sick leave based on paid regular hours. BPA employees may take accrued sick leave after 30 days of employment. Sick leave may be accrued without limit. The City has a sick leave program that provides incentives for non-use of sick leave.
The City provides leaves of absence in accordance with established guidelines for jury and witness leave, military leave, voting leave, family medical leave and bereavement leave.
NOTE: Fringe benefits may vary from those listed above subject to employment status and the collective bargaining agreements.
