Suspensions

The Court will request that the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) suspend your driving privileges for the following reasons:

  • Failure to appear for arraignment. You may be suspended.
  • Failure to appear for a court trial or other hearing date. There is no grace period for court trials. You can be suspended the same day.
  • Failure to pay fines and fees the day adjudicated or failing to adhere to the installment payment plan.
  • Failure to comply with community service or a class. If you chose to do community service in lieu of paying a fine, you must provide proof of completion to the Court by the deadline. If you are part of the Youth Offender Program you must appear for the six month checkup. If you chose the Seatbelt Diversion you must complete the class and provide proof to the Court by the deadline.

Once the Court has requested that DMV suspend your privileges, the citation must be paid in full and there is an additional $15 suspension fee per citation. When the matter is cleared with the Court, you will be given a “clearance form” to take to DMV to remove the hold on your license.

If a citation is in “suspended status” with the Court, you are not eligible for an installment payment plan. You may submit payments if you cannot afford to pay the full amount at one time. When the citation is paid in full, then the clearance will be provided.
