The Dispute Resolution Center’s 44-hour Basic Mediation training focuses on conflict resolution skills including conciliation, negotiation, and mediation.
The training includes material on communication skills and styles, problem solving techniques, conflict theory and styles, active listening techniques, methods of decision-making, the mediation process, and the mediator’s role and ethics.
The material is presented through lecture, demonstration and interactive role plays. Experienced mediators act as presenters and individual coaches. The Center’s training exceeds the requirements of the Oregon Mediation Association and the mediation standards set by the Oregon Dispute Resolution Commission.
The Dispute Resolution Center has an ongoing commitment to teach citizens about the nature of conflict, and how they can better manage and resolve everyday conflict in their lives.
