Processing Times

People

Routine processing for passports takes several weeks. Please keep this in mind while planning your trip. The time it takes to receive your passport will vary depending on the volume of applications Passport Services is processing at the time you apply. Please check the Department of States website (www.travel.state.gov) for the latest information on processing time. You can also call their information line at 1-877-487-2778.

Form DS-11 must be presented and signed in person at an authorized passport acceptance facility. We will mail your passport application and submitted documents to U.S. Passport agency for processing. The agency will mail your passport and return your birth certificate or your naturalization certificate sent in with your application.

Form DS-82 does not have to be presented to a passport agent. If you meet the qualifications to use this form, you will be responsible for submitting all required items and mailing the application. This form does not guarantee a faster processing time. Please allow sufficient time to receive your passport back by checking the current information on the Department of State website.

Expedited processing time is also listed on the Department of State wesite. Please check the processing time to allow sufficient time to receive your passport before you leave. Overnight mail delivery is recommended. If you are within 10 business days of your departure, you will need to make an appointment with the Seattle Passport Office. Call 1-877-487-2778 to schedule an appointment. You will be required to submit all documents including proof of your immediate departure date.

You can also apply for passports at the U.S. Main post office in downtown Portland, at the Washington County Department of Assessment and Taxation in Hillsboro and at Tigard City Hall.
