Giving Gardens

This summer local families in need will receive fresh produce from Beaverton’s Giving Gardens project. Community volunteers will tend plots in the newly re-opened Kennedy Community Garden. The fresh vegetables will be donated to the Oregon Food Bank, St. Matthew’s Church food pantry, Sunshine Pantry and the Tualatin Valley Gleaners. Pitch in!

To volunteer, please, call (503)526-2380 or send an email to givinggardens@ci.beaverton.or.us.

August 26, 2009 Update! Close to 700 pounds of produce has been donated so far this year with over a month of the growing season yet to go. Despite all this success, the garden still needs more volunteers and we are happy to help you donate any extra produce that you have from your own garden. Read below to learn more!

Here are a few ways you can help:

  • Help tend the garden by doing some weeding and other light duty tasks (tools will be provided). Call 503-526-2380 to sign up!
  • Working too much on your own garden to help out? Donate any extra produce you have from your garden at home! Please drop it off at the Neighborhood Office (Beaverton City Hall, 4755 SW Griffith Dr., Room 103) on Tuesdays and Thursdays during business hours.

Thank you to the following for your generosity: Catalyst Project, Catatilla Design, Growing Gardens, Jeff Kautenberg, Farmers Insurance Agency, Oregon Food Bank’s Learning Gardens, St. Matthew’s Church, Tualatin Valley Gleaners, and Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District. A special note of appreciation to Ginger Steele, owner of New Leaf Greenhouse, who donated most of the organic vegetable plant starts.
