Beaverton Celebration Parade

Beaverton’s Celebration Parade began in 1957 and has grown into a community tradition with more than a hundred festive entries, from marching bands and colorful floats to civic and cultural organizations. The parade winds through the streets of Beaverton to finish at the Beaverton Old Town Festival, a family-friendly festival with entertainment and food in the heart of historic downtown. Each year, the Service to Beaverton Award winners are honored as “celebrity” guests in the parade.

Winners of Parade Theme Contest: Dancing in the Streets

View Press Release

Vickie Greco and Melissa Riley are the winners of the 2009 Parade Theme Contest. Our annual contest offers the public the opportunity to name the theme for Beaverton’s annual parade.

Vickie, a resident of Beaverton since 1967, is currently the lead toddler teacher for Knowledge Beginnings in Hillsboro. As a member of the One More Time Around Again Marching Band since 1987, she feels that parades are all about "Dancing in the Streets," although she admits that some of her inspiration also came from recently watching the Van Halen version of "Dancing in the Streets" on YouTube!

Melissa, who moved to Beaverton in 2007 and immediately began to collaborate with other Beaverton artists, is currently creating a community theatre. She loves the idea of celebrating our diversity and community spirit with "Dancing in the Streets." Melissa will welcome a new addition to her family in August and looks forward to the Theatre in the Park at Schiffler Park and the Library Auditorium this summer.
