The Service to Beaverton awards were created to honor those of you who help to make our community such a wonderful place to live, work, and thrive. Presented by the City of Beaverton and the Beaverton Area Chamber of Commerce, the 2009 Service to Beaverton Awards recognize those who have made positive contributions to our city and neighborhoods over the past year. The winners were honored during the City’s Volunteer Recognition Night, on Wednesday, May 13, and as "celebrity" participants in Beaverton’s Celebration Parade on Saturday, September 19.
Recognized for her work as chair of the Tualatin Hills Park Foundation, Janet Allison has been instrumental in improving the quality of parks in Beaverton by spearheading fundraising initiatives and projects to complement the efforts of the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District.
Co-winner in the individual category, Leslie Mundt has been an active volunteer with the Beaverton Celebration Parade Committee for 23 years and has served as chair for more than 15 years.
Care to Share coordinates assistance to families and individuals seeking emergency food and other basic needs, including coordinating rent and utility assistance to residents in danger of eviction or shut-off.
The Central Beaverton NAC has added seven new active board members since 2008, sought out grant funds for a proposed art mural and supported Beaverton Civic Theatre summer productions among other community activities.
A treasured community partner, Rivermark Community Credit Union is engaged in the community in numerous ways from fundraising to volunteerism.
