Beaverton’s commitment to tree planting and care has earned the city distinction as a "Tree City USA". While city trees create an attractive urban landscape, they also contribute to increasing leaf volumes each autumn. Typically, street sweeping schedules in several areas of the city are increased to help get rid of the excess leaves in the streets.
This Fall the City will utilize a leaf vacuum to more efficiently remove leaves. Leaf vacuums are currently used locally by the City of Hillsboro and the City of Forest Grove with much success. The leaf vacuum, towed behind a dump truck, forces the leaves from the curbs into the truck bed. Since the leaf vacuum cleans without sweeping, there will be less dirt and debris left over.
See the Leaf Vacuum Areas map (PDF) for anticipated vacuuming dates. This schedule will be updated periodically on this Web site.
Please note that vehicles parked on the street will limit the ability to vacuum all leaves. The City’s Municipal Code prohibits dumping leaves onto streets and roads—City equipment is used to pick up leaves fallen from street trees and natural accumulation.
