The City of Beaverton works to promote residential, multifamily and commercial recycling in Beaverton.

In 2003 and early 2004, the City of Beaverton Solid Waste & Recycling Program conducted a pilot project to test if recycling in multifamily communities improved with the use of recycling tote bags (to help transport recyclable materials to the recycling areas) and recycling depot signage (to more prominently show tenants where the recycling areas were located.)

There were notable improvements in the recycling programs at seven of the nine participating complexes. As a result of the pilot project, a comprehensive program has been developed and is being expanded to apartment and condominium complexes throughout the City in three phases over the next twelve to eighteen months (2005 and 2006).

An effective “Beaverton Recycles” program requires a partnership of the property manager/owner, garbage and recycling hauler, and the City.

The City’s role in the project includes:

  • Making education/informational resources available to complex managers, owners and residents.
  • Providing recycling signs and decals to complexes in the City and recycling tote bags to tenants.
  • Promoting regular communication between property managers/owners and the franchised haulers.
  • Serving as a resource for managers and owners to start, maintain or improve effective recycling programs.
Beaverton Recycles: Cardboard, Scrap Paper, Cans & Scrap Metal, Plastic Bottles & Tubes.
