Roll-Carts Frequently Asked Questions

Road
What color are the recycling roll-carts?

Each of Beaverton’s seven franchised haulers has their own color scheme. The largest portion of City residents are in Waste Management territory and will receive green carts with yellow lids.

How big are the new roll-carts?

They are 60-gallon carts, the same size most as yard debris carts. The larger size increases your overall capacity and provides space for larger items (like cardboard) to fit inside the cart.

Why must glass be separated from the other recycled materials?

Broken glass shards can cause injury to workers and damage sorting equipment, as well as reduce the value of recycled paper, so it must be collected separately.

When and how is glass collected in Beaverton?

Glass should be set out at the curb on your regular collection day in one of the red bins currently used for recycling. Although glass will be collected every week by your hauler, you should only put the bin out when it is full. This will increase efficiencies and help keep your monthly garbage rate low.

Who are Beaverton’s franchise haulers?
  • Aloha Garbage & Recycling
  • Garbarino Disposal Service
  • Pride Disposal Service
  • Valley Garbage & Recycling
  • Walker’s Garbage Service
  • Waste Management
  • West Slope Garbage Service
Are Beaverton garbage rates going up?

There is no plan to increase rates in 2007. Beaverton’s last residential rate change took effect on July 1, 2003, so at some point in the future an increase may be necessary to keep up with inflationary expenses, but this will not occur this year.

Is there something I can do to help keep my garbage rate low?

You are encouraged to only put out your roll-cart and glass bin when full. This will increase the overall efficiency of the collection system, which helps Beaverton maintain the lowest possible garbage rates.

What are the most important things I should not do?
  • Don’t put glass in the recycling cart—put it in the separate bin.
  • Don’t put plastic bags in your recycling or yard debris. (This includes not using plastic bags to hold scrap paper, etc.)
  • Don’t put garbage in your recycling roll cart.
Do I still put my cardboard to the side?

No. All materials, including cardboard should be inside the roll-cart.
