Mark has served on the City Council since January 2013. Before being elected to Council, Mark was a member of the Planning Commission, the Civic Plan Steering Committee and was the founding chairperson of the City's award-winning Visioning Advisory Committee. Mark is a graduate of the Beaverton Area Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Beaverton program. He was also an active volunteer for the Urban Renewal Plan.
Great things are happening in Beaverton right now and our future looks bright. We have great neighborhoods, businesses, schools and parks, and a fantastic reputation for public safety, livability, and sustainability.
We also face a number of challenges. Our economy is slowly stabilizing but many are still struggling. Our schools are facing dramatic cuts. I believe we need to act as a community to address our challenges.
My drive to join City Council began with my work on the Visioning Advisory Committee. I understand people expect leaders to understand community priorities and to deliver. I believe my role is to listen, to be disciplined, to stay focused, and to follow through.
I joined the Council because I want to be a part of helping to build a better community. My key areas of interest are expanding economic development opportunities and focusing on our downtown redevelopment plans. I think these things are important ingredients to local job growth. I want there to be jobs for our kids as they graduate. I want a sustainable local economy – one in which our community flourishes.
I am committed to being a responsive and available City Councilor. I am ready to work together to make Beaverton the Best of Oregon!
