The Volunteer Program was created to form a working partnership between citizens and the police to enhance communications and assist the Beaverton Police Department in the delivery of quality services. Citizen volunteers are recruited from various sources, including the
Citizens Academy. They assist the agency in many ways, including:
- Car seat clinics
- Clerical duties
- Computer and mapping projects
- Department tours
- Distributing emergency food baskets to the needy
- Home Security Program
- HomeSafe Program
- Traffic Safety Team projects
The program is not designed to have the volunteer replace professional staff, but is aimed at providing a supplementary and complementary role. Volunteers, when given appropriate training, can supplement present services and become a valuable addition to the Beaverton Police Department.
Program Goals
- To provide the citizens of Beaverton an opportunity to give back and gain from their community; to break down barriers; and to open doors of communication between citizens and the police
- To provide the police staff with a trained pool of volunteers to assist various departments in providing public police services
- To provide the volunteer an opportunity for a positive meaningful experience with growth and knowledge
