The Beaverton Main Street Program works to foster vibrant commercial districts that draw people, businesses and investment to key areas of the city. The program provides customized support, using the Main Street approach, to local organizations working to revitalize Beaverton’s commercial districts. Support may include marketing and event planning, financial assistance for design and promotions, facade and streetscape improvements, technical support and more. This program operates under the general auspices of the 2017-2021 Economic Development Strategic Plan.
Beaverton’s Main Street Program is based on the Main Street Approach: a common-sense, strategy-driven framework that guides community based revitalization efforts. The City of Beaverton works with Oregon Main Street to implement the Main Street Approach. This approach was developed by the National Main Street Center to help revitalize downtown commercial districts.
The district currently covered by the Beaverton Main Street Program is: Downtown Beaverton
Other Beaverton commercial districts interested in implementing the Main Street Approach or other merchant organizing activities are encouraged to contact the Economic Development Division for assistance 503-526-2493.
The Beaverton Main Street program has so far focused on downtown Beaverton. Economic Development staff has provided technical assistance, training, and funding to the Beaverton Downtown Association (BDA). The BDA consists of business owners, property owners, residents, and other community members who care about downtown Beaverton.
Downtown Beaverton is now designated as a “Transforming Downtown Community” through the State of Oregon Main Street Program.
The City of Beaverton has provided more than $88,000 in funding to the BDA between 2011-2017, via the Main Street Seed Fund for downtown revitalization efforts. These include: First Friday, A Taste of Vintage Holidays, the Broadway Street Festival and installation of historic downtown plaques, as well as capacity-building work.
Main Street Seed Fund
The City of Beaverton established a Main Street Seed Fund to meaningfully address neighborhood economic development. Eligible organizations can apply for funding to support projects that utilize the Main Street Approach to downtown revitalization. Funding applications for the 2017-2018 fiscal year are due on June 15, 2017.
