Design and Construction Standards Update

The current Engineering Design Manual (EDM) and Standard Drawings were adopted by City Council in 2007. Beginning in late 2017, a collaborative effort was undertaken to revise out-of-date information and references, improve clarity and readability, and update the document to reflect new city policies, practices, and technology. As examples, the EDM includes the following revisions:

  • Complete rewrite of the Water chapter
  • Combined Storm and Sewer chapters. Made Beaverton specific revisions to CWS Standards
  • Change maintenance assurance period from 1 year to 2 years
  • Add Non-Potable Water chapter
  • Add electronic submission of plans
  • Removed 24 x 36-inch plan sheets as an option
  • Removed requirement for the submittal of multiple plan sets
  • Reformatted the document
  • Change pavement design life from 20 years to 40 years
  • Added detailed table of contents for each chapter with links
  • Entire document is searchable including standard drawings
  • Added corrosion protection section and standard drawings
  • Revised many standard drawings to be current
  • Organization of plan sheets clarified and requirements updated.
