BEAVERTON, Ore. – In an effort to improve safety, changes to the main entrance of the Griffith Drive building will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019. These changes will require all members of the public to pass through a metal detector and have bags screened via an X-ray machine upon entrance to the building.
The new security measures will be required for those visiting the building for court or police business, as well as for people attending events and meetings during court hours. Court hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Thursday until 7 p.m.
Prohibited items will not be allowed entrance into the building. These items include any weapons or firearms (even with a permit); knives or sharp objects; pepper spray or mace; illegal items or substances; and any items that pose a security risk or health hazard.
The Griffith Drive building is home to the city’s court, police and emergency management operations. A security contractor will be providing the screening service under the direction of city staff.
