What are the general guidelines for yard debris recycling?

General guidelines:

  • Yard debris carts are picked up weekly in the City of Beaverton. Most other Washington County jurisdictions have collections of yard debris every other week.
  • Please place your yard debris cart at the curb (not in the street) on your scheduled day by 6 a.m..
  • Include only leaves, grass clippings, garden waste, weeds, branches, and prunings (no greater than four inches in diameter and 36 inches in length). The general rule is if it grew in your yard you can put it in the bin.
  • Contact the City at 503-526-2665 or Metro at 503-234-3000 for backyard composting brochures or information.
  • Plastic bags cannot be used for yard debris. If you have extra yard debris you may use kraft paper yard debris bags found at many local retailers. Please note, there is an additional charge for extra yard debris.
  • A typical 60-gallon roll cart may not weigh more than 100 pounds.
  • Please, no oversized items, dirt, sod, stumps, metal, rocks, ashes, food waste, plastic, lumber, animal waste, or household garbage.
  • Do not overstuff the container - material must fall freely from the container.
